Breakaway News Volume 20 Issue No. 9 September 2015
/Labor Party
Happy Labor Day weekend! We wish all our – and everyone else’s – workers a good weekend, and a well deserved feet up. This year, Labor Day is a little late, since the first Monday of the month falls on the 7th. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying your barbecue! Just be sure to use Breakaway to deliver all the burgers, dogs, and buns required!
Topless in Times Sq.
As messengers in the big city, we thought we’d seen it all. Well, now we really have. The “desnudas”- Times Square topless ladies - have certainly stirred the political pot with a whole bunch of pols vying to be more outraged about it than the last one. Relax, everyone. Come winter, we’re sure there’ll be nothing to see.
Last Mile in Style
What is the Last Mile? It’s that last push to get something to its ultimate destination after it’s travelled from a long distance. An item may have been shipped from Australia to Parsippany, but if it doesn’t get to your office or home, it might as well never have been shipped at all. We specialize in all sorts of Last Mile services, big or small, a little or a lot. Call us to learn more.
Traffic Time
We all know that sitting in traffic is a giant pain in the you-know-what, but a recently released study figured out just how bad it is for New York area drivers. According to the study, we spent an estimated 74 extra hours in the car due to traffic in 2014 – more than 3 days. Time that could have been better spent driving from NY to San Francisco; completing the coursework for a pilot’s license; or watching 148 episodes of Seinfeld. Of course, our guys slip right through traffic, making using a Breakaway courier the smart choice.
Fashionably Prompt
This year, New York Fashion week moves out of the tents at Lincoln Center to two new venues: The Skylight at the Moynihan Station Post Office, and the Skylight in Clarkson Square. So, if you have an important fashionista delivery, remember to double-check the address, and don’t forget that while Breakaway couriers are always fashionably clad, they are never fashionably late.
Ole! Ole!
We’ve scarcely had the chance to calm down from the Tour de France, and now it’s time for another Grand Tour. Actually, it’s the last Grand Tour of the season, the Vuelta a España. It’s one last chance for bicycle racers to snag glory in another long grueling tour. Who will win? After the Tour, who will care?
Stump the Band
Last month we asked what the month of August was originally called. Answer: The month used to be called Sextillis, as the sixth month in the original ten-month Roman calendar. It was renamed in honor of Rome’s first emperor, Octavian Caesar Augustus.
T-Shirt Question
Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe,” was recorded in England. What was the name of the song’s female chorus? The first one to call Gil Ortiz with the correct answer will win a coveted Breakaway T-shirt.
